The Hamburg S-Bahn's "Ideatrain Urban" project addresses future demands in public transport, including rising passenger numbers, comfort, versatility, and sustainability. Following its official unveiling at the UITP trade show in Hamburg, the project has become a benchmark for the development of future fleets. As part of the Neomind design team, I was responsible for designing and animating the integrated passenger information systems that guided visitors through the physical model, as well as creating the graphics for the marketing campaign.

Deutsche Bahn’s Ideatrain is essentially a mobile laboratory. It offers a glimpse into the future of rail travel. Potential solutions to future challenges are being developed and tested in a 1:1 scale mock-up. The Ideatrain-Urban model features new wayfinding systems and colour-coding schemes designed to help passengers find their way and speed up boarding and disembarking. Wider entry areas, multifunctional bicycle zones and flexible seating configurations adapt dynamically to the situation at hand, making efficient use of interior space and preventing congestion in the aisles. Solar panels on the roof of the vehicle generate electricity that is fed directly into the grid, representing a concrete step towards climate-neutral mobility. Touchless door buttons ensure optimal hygiene. Interactive call buttons and Bluetooth interfaces for hearing aids ensure an accessible environment. Furthermore, the use of innovative materials reduces the vehicle’s weight by 30%, leading to significant energy savings.
